Will Rogers Archway
United States / VINITA, Oklahoma
Location ID: #10255539
Built in 1957, the Will Rogers Archway opened to the public in early 1958. This magnificent piece of architecture is a service station and restaurant that stretches over the width of the Will Rogers Turnpike just outside Vinita. Nicknamed "The Glass House," visitors can stand inside and watch the cars whiz by underneath their feet. Stop and grab a hamburger or some souvenirs and experience this unique roadside structure.
This building was the first over-the-road service plaza, and for a time was home to the world's largest McDonald's. People used to travel from all around to grab a burger at this over-20,000 sq. ft. building until the title was taken by a Russian McDonald's in the early 1990s. It has also been home to several other restaurants and fuel facilities over the decades. The arch is 52 feet tall at its peak, and it is still a popular attraction along the highway today.
