The Crowder Hotel - W.H. Trott built the Western Hotel in 1894 at the corner of Scraper and Illinois (across the street from Carter’s Grocery) and it reigned as the finest lodging in town until The Cobb Hotel went up at Vann and Illinois. In 1911, it was The Palace, by 1915, The Vinita, and then The Crowder. Hotels typically occupied the 2nd and 3rd floors.
