Visual storytelling at my level of experience requires the effort of several people. Throughout my career, I have been all of those people. I am considered a specialist by my employers in a variety of job descriptions, most of which revolve around camera. On a regular basis I am expected to manage budgets with production, visualize the day’s tasks as part of a larger mission, and assemble the team along with other resources. This lends to creative problem solving that is more than just framing, focus, or exposure. It’s navigating a large variety of personalities, locations, and time constraints that are unique to camera. All while keeping the “larger mission” paramount.
